Subject: Scoring System

I really don't think the scoring system makes up that big of a difference in line up strategy used on a specific night of shooting darts. If I'm not mistaken the visitors are required to fill out the sheet first--I as a captain would then fill out the sheet putting my best players against theirs--the points assigned to a specific game  would then be taken out of the equation--thus eliminating the theory of people trying to win just the high point games to win the night. Sure it can happen--but I dont believe it is done on purpose.

Don't do it! It makes for a boring dart night. Keep it real. Wilson how's your game? Practice Practice Practice. Your going to need it.

Mr. Wilson - No you don't get to vote but nice to hear from you.

I support the original scoring system. It makes the match more challenging and interesting. Why should a cricket to twelve game carry the same weight as a single 401? If every game is worth one point let’s just play 501 and normal cricket.

PS. Mike B…….if you are going to hang up the darts let’s at least have a retirement party! Your place or ours.

Back in the day when this League was formed , it was to be different then the rest of the leagues in the area. You came to the NODA  for the format that we worked hard on to work all the bugs out of.  Part of that was the work of the captain to set the team up to win the most points they could in one night, and that was the reason that the format worked for so long.  But if TWENTY SEVEN years of this is not going to last, it might as well be my last year of darts.  It has been great.  Mike Burdett.

Do I get a vote? If so I would go back to the old way. I agree that setting up your team in order to maximize the point you can take is part of the game.

The one point system works well to balance out the teams play. The teams now have to work harder together and earn the nights win. In the past point system fewer games where needed to win the night.

I know people don't like change and this is a big change from the past scoring system.  If you look at how other leagues use there scoring system (This goes for both Steel and Soft Darts and in other parts of the world) A one point system forces the team to work as a team to win. Not having to count on two players to pull them through a few games and win the night.

I've played darts in differant country's and the one point system is in affect.

Subject: 1 point system vs 33 point system

(Point System) I agree with Jeremiah that the 1 point system evens out the league and is better for the league.  The individual shooter must still hit the same numbers each game.  By going to a 1 point system, you are taking out the "captain factor", which requires a captain to carefully plan a strategy as to which players get to play in the higher point games vs. lower point games.  This does take away from the concept of darts.  Under the old system, it was possible for a team to win only 6 out of 15 games and win the night by 1 point (at least in div. 1).  Seriously, does this sound like darts?  No, it's captain strategy, pure and simple.

(Format Change) Our league format is unique.  Many like it, many don't.  It's up for discussion as to whether changing the format would bring in more players than we would lose.  Based on the diminishing amount of teams in our league, I think we have the answer as to whether our current format is working or not.  I would be in favor of listening to new proposals for possible format and point changes/game.  Last Monday, I listened to some good debates on potential new formats; including going to a 1 pt/1 player game, 2 points/2 player games, and 3 points for 3-4 player games as well as 1 point for 1-2 player games and 2 points for 3-4 player games.  I like the fact that both are a compromise between the original 33 pt. format and the new 1 point format.  Unfortunately, it still allows a team to only win 5 or 6 games out of 15 and win the night.

Based on all of the discussion I have heard so far, I will vote to continue the current 1 point format.  I would also like for people to submit their own proposals for a potential new point system to me at MichaelAbbott@noda-darts.com.  I will bring these proposals to the board over the summer for discussion for the Fall 2010 season.

To become a good shot it takes practice. Lots of it. We all know this in steel tip darts. That's why we joined. We accepted the  scoring system when we joined and have always known the challenge of team play. To the NEW PLAYERS who just can't seem to "hang" with this system by calling the scoring system not fair-- TOO BAD. Go back to plastic machines. This is big league and big league scoring. Don't complain that it's not fair because strategy of tough play stacks better shooters against others. Practice and become better yourself. You joined "OUR LEAGUE" to compete. You read the rules and accepted them like big girls and boys. Become the ONE who IS ON the BETTER TEAM. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECTION-- PRACTICE AND STOP WHINING!

Roko I can appreciate your point of view however I do not understand how you feel one dart game is more challenging then another. The numbers on the board are the same size for every game. I believe the one point scoring system evens out the league. If you use the multiple point system you can have a team load up their best players for the multiple point games (such as team) and win the night even if they lose every singles game. With a one point system these stronger teams have to spread out their talent throughout the night and matchups become very important. I also believe with the one point scoring system every game is just as important as the next which means the entire night is interesting. I enjoy the one point scoring system however I would like to see a change in the format.

The new 1 point rule is like . . .
Watching a football game and every touchdown counting for 7 points and every field goal counting as 7 points.  Also, every safety would be 7 points and every extra point would actually be an extra 7 points.
A basketball game where every time you made a basket it would be 2 points - even beyond the the arc it would count for 2 points.  Free throws would also be 2 points.
It's like a wrestling match where a takedown would be 1 point, an escape would be 1 point, a pin would get you 1 team point, a close win would get you 1 team point . . .
It's like a DART GAME!!!! -  If you hit the triple it would only count as a single, if you hit the double it would only count as a single - if you hit a single - it would be a single.
Get my drift?  There are reasons that points need to differ - it adjusts with effort, difficulty, precision, and rewards.  Strategy should be rewarded.
It also keeps games from being bland and "all the same."   When you go to eat a meal, do you eat the same thing 3 times a day?  Nope.  Let's add some variety and get the old point system back - thanks for reading.
